This newsletter finds me prepping for Friday's training with Marina Budhos. It sounds like it's going to be fun and interesting. If you plan to attend and did not receive a confirmation from Laurie Sledge today, please contact me as soon as you read this. The confirmations have been sent to all who registered.

MARY ANN'S MEANDERINGS Many Eyes is an experiment by IBM Research and the IBM Cognos software group. With Many Eyes you can upload data and then create a visualization based on that data. You can view and discuss your visualizations and data sets by creating and participating in topic centers, as well as track your contributions and see comments that others have written to you.For example, if you want to analyze a text, you can create a word tree, a tag cloud, a phrase network, or a word cloud. To compare a set of values, you can create a bar chart, a block histogram, or a bubble chart. To see relationships among data points, you can create a scatterplot, matrix chart, or network diagram. You can see the parts of a whole by creating a pie chart or treemap, and you can track rises and falls over time by creating a line graph or stack graph. If you don't have data of your own, you can upload data found on public sites such as the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, or the Federal Reserve. This would be a really fun tool to engage kids in statistics or other math classes.
